LIS 6511 Collection Development and Maintenance

Cover page of a needs assessment for the Osceola Library System

This is a group project that I recently finished for my Collection Development class.  The project is a needs assessment for the Osceola Library System.  While doing this project we learned how to research, use, and analyze information such as census data, surveys, and focus groups.  My role in this project started with me being the person that  put the whole thing together, using my skills with Canva, which is a mighty tool that I feel everyone that works in a library should learn to use.  I did all but two of the charts/tables, again Canva made the work so much easier.  I did a lot of research using the library's website, and the census data for Osceola County.  I learned a lot about how to analyze the census data to make all the charts and tables.  Overall this was an interesting and very informative project.

LIS 5566.001 Multicultural Lit for Children & Young Adults

Cover photo for a Diversity in Youth Literature toolkit. Clicking on it opens a link to the whole toolkit.

This is the toolkit I made for my Multicultural Literature class in the fall of 2025.  In this class, I learned how to select books and materials that are diverse.  These books will provide children of all ages "mirrors" to see themselves in the books they read.  It will also provide other children "windows" to see into a different culture or a "sliding glass door" that will allow them to step into the world of someone that is different than them.  As you look through the book reviews you can see how I perceived the author's abilities to achieve those goals.  The book suggestions were fun to look up and find and I have already sent the links to the children's book purchaser of my library to look through.

A book trailer I did for this class about an individual with autism.

II.b. Students evaluate and select print and digital information resources and systems to meet needs of users.

LIS5937.012S25 Seminar in Youth Services

This is a link to a children's display. It has a frog with glasses sitting on a log reading and the text says: Hop into sprng with a toad-ally good book.

For this project I chose books to make an actual display in the Children's Department of the Monroe County Public Library where I am currently employed.  This project showcases how I chose books and information to include in this amazing display.  It also includes links to all the items used as decor.

II.c. Students understand and use appropriate information technology for information services.

LIS 6603 Basic Information Sources/Services

A link to a LibGuide on Arts & Crafts

This is my libguide from my LIS6603 class.  I loved this project because I not only got to  talk about some of my favorite crafts, but I got to choose books to go along with all of them.  Doing this assignment I learned how to develop skills in organizing information using software tools and web applications, located and used reference sources in a variety of formats, evaluated reference resources according to user needs, provided the right information about a specific topic, and provided a guide for patrons to research resources.  I also think it is amusing that in the time between the me making this libguide and  the me making this portfolio, I have taken over the Makerspace program in my library.  So, I am the one doing the 3D printing program as well as an Arts & Crafts program..
